Parks & Recreation Community Outreach
Parks and Recreation staff teach our little citizens sustainable concepts.
The theme of the 2009 Summer Playground program was "Getting Back to Nature" which taught children about organic gardening, biomes and ecosystems.
Matt Sensabaugh, City Horticulturist, works with children from the HEART After School Program planting trees.
At the 2009 Summer Playground sites, children add
food scraps to the "worm farm" which teaches basic
composting.
Children in the Staunton Parks & Recreation Summer Playground program get exposed to the wild and natural surroundings of Augusta Springs Wetlands.
