Citizen's Complaints
The Staunton Police Department strives to maintain a professional police department committed to the needs of the local community. Complaints about the actions of any police employee or any aspect of the operations of the Staunton Police Department will be thoroughly investigated. In order to file a complaint, utilize the following procedure:

If you wish to make a complaint about the actions of a Staunton Police Officer or about any aspect of the Staunton Police Department, please: |
| a. Come to the Police Department, 116 West
Beverley Street, and tell any employee that you want to make a
complaint, or |

b. Call the Police Department, 332.3845, and tell the person answering the telephone that you want to make a complaint, or |
|
| c. Write your complaint out and mail it to the
Chief of Police, Staunton Police Department, P.O. Box 2664, Staunton,
Virginia 24402. |

A Staunton Police Command Officer will assist you in filling out a Report of Complaint Against Police Personnel form. This form asks you to identify yourself and then to give specific details about your complaint. |

Your complaint will then be investigated. You may be contacted and asked additional questions about your complaint |
| 4. |
You will receive a letter from the Chief of Police acknowledging receipt of your complaint and that an investigation has been initiated. |
| 5. |
When your complaint has been investigated, the Chief of Police will review the investigation and will write you a letter explaining what has been found out about the matter. |
