City Council Releases Vision & Priorities
SEPTEMBER 9, 2019 — Staunton City Council is unveiling its updated 10-year vision and accompanying priorities for the City this month and into the fall.
The rollout, which will occur over the next three to four months, will include a series of speaking engagements to local citizen groups, civic clubs and organizations; the distribution of a brochure that citizens can view online or pick up at any City building describing the vision and priorities; a video; and a social media campaign.
Council’s Vision for 2030 and priorities focus on seven areas: economic development, education, culture, inclusiveness, resilience, a responsive and efficient government, and a built environment. Council’s priorities support these focus areas with actions City Council and City staff will take over the next three years to work toward the desired state of the City.
After each election, City Council members come together in a retreat with the city manager and his staff to discuss how they’d like to see Staunton progress over the next 10 years, map out a vision and set associated priorities for three years to help achieve the vision.
“It’s important to recognize that the Vision for 2030 reflects how City Council desires to see Staunton in 10 years,” said Mayor Carolyn Dull. “It isn’t meant to be just a hopeful declaration, though. We are going to work diligently, starting with our priorities for the next three years, to realize the vision we’ve set for the Queen City. I encourage all citizens to take the time to read the vision and priorities and share your ideas with us.”
