Deadline to complete Community Foundation Citizen Survey is Friday, May 29
Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge is seeking direct input from residents in the community about what citizens may be struggling with as a result of lost income, social distancing requirements, their health risks, social inequities and biases, and any barriers to accessing resources. There are four ways to participate and all responses will be kept confidential:

SNAP Participants Now Able to Purchase Groceries Online
Governor Ralph Northam recently announced that for the first time, Virginians who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be able to pay for their groceries online and have them delivered, after the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved Virginia’s participation in an innovative online purchasing pilot program.

The program will launch statewide in Virginia on Friday, May 29 with online shopping access available through the Amazon and Walmart online platforms. Retailers interested in participating in the program can find more information and apply by contacting USDA. Transactions will take place using SNAP customers’ secure Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). SNAP benefits cannot be used to pay for fees of any type, such as delivery, service, or convenience fees.  Additional information about SNAP benefits in Virginia is available on the VDSS website.

Social Security Updates
For the safety of our community, local Social Security offices will still only be able to provide services over the phone or online. The Social Security Administration recommends that residents first try to use online services before calling for quicker results. The Staunton Social Security office phone number is 888.632.6896.

The Social Security Administration has a comprehensive FAQ webpage to answer most of your Social Security questions online, without having to speak with a Social Security representative. It contains a wide range of topics, such as Medicare, Social Security Payments, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and many others!
