SAW Radio Project Begins Testing Sept. 8

Sept. 2, 2025 – The SAW (Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro) Region will be conducting area coverage testing to support their current upgrade to a new P25 Digital Trunked radio system. Radio coverage testing is the process of measuring and verifying the strength and quality of a radio signal to ensure reliable and efficient communication for public safety entities. The testing will also confirm compliance with safety and performance standards.

How will this Affect the Community?

During the weeks of Sept. 8, 2025 through Sept. 26, 2025, there will be vehicles driving throughout the community to test radio equipment. You may see vehicles in the area of your property that stop along the roadway for a few minutes and then move on. These vehicles will be plain, without city logos or signage, and will have 3 occupants. The testing period for the City of Staunton and City of Waynesboro is expected to be Sept. 8-12 and the testing period for the County of Augusta is expected to be Sept. 8-26.

During this testing period, there will not be anyone approaching homes on foot or asking residents for any information.

If you see a vehicle that could be involved in the testing but have concern, contact your local dispatch center on the non-emergency lines listed below:

            City of Staunton         540-332-3842
