Offices Open at Noon Wednesday; Heavy Equipment Deployed for Cleanup

Jan. 27, 2026 – City of Staunton offices and facilities, including the Staunton Public Library, will open at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Staunton General District, Juvenile & Domestic Relations, and Circuit Courts will be closed all day Wednesday.

Aggressive Cleanup Strategy Implemented
Public Works has shifted tactics to combat the heavy ice pack on residential streets. The city has deployed front-end loaders, backhoes, and motor graders, supported by emergency contractors, to physically break up the ice before plowing.

With this increase in machinery and manpower, residents should see a noticeable increase in clearing in the coming days. However, because crews are breaking up solid ice, they are working feet at a time rather than miles at a time. Progress is slow, but with more teams and better equipment in place, the city is moving forward steadily.

Trash and Recycling

  • Monday and Tuesday Customers: Please hold your trash until your regularly scheduled pickup day next week. Refuse crews continue to assist with snow and ice removal.

Important Reminders

  • Stay Informed: Sign up for Staunton Alert Message and city news updates. Updates will also be shared on the city’s website and the city’s social media pages.
  • Keep snow out of the street: Do not shovel snow from sidewalks or driveways into the roadway. Businesses are reminded not to move snow from their parking lots onto the sidewalks.
