Friday Update: Cleanup Continues; Trash Resumes

Jan. 30, 2026 – Following a week of historic winter weather, seven dedicated Public Works teams spent Friday tackling neighborhood ice across the city, focusing on widening travel lanes and removing snow from the downtown core.

Throughout the day, crews and contractors utilized heavy machinery to push back snow banks and expose more pavement.

"We want to thank the private contractors who have been an incredible force, working relentless hours alongside our city crews," said Director of Public Works Dave Irvin. "While streets are passable, our focus now is on widening them. This is critical for two-way traffic safety, ensuring access for trash collection and mail carriers, and preventing 'hidden icebergs' that could damage equipment in future storms."

Trash Collection Resumes
Public Works has confirmed that trash collection will resume its normal schedule starting Saturday.

  • Downtown Central Business District: Commercial pickup resumes Saturday, Jan. 31.
  • Residential: Normal pickup resumes Monday, Feb. 2 on regular scheduled days.

Extra Trash is expected next week given the missed service this past week. Residents may place extra bags alongside their bins without bag tags for this week only.

  • Stuck Bins: If you cannot get your bin to the street next week, you are welcome to place bags out by themselves.
  • Placement: Crews ask that residents place trash bins and/or bags past the snowbank on the street side so that crews can get to the trash.

Recycling Center Opens
The Recycling Center will get back to its normal schedule on Monday, Feb. 2. The normal hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays. Check the full schedule and find more recycling information on the webpage
