March 16, 2026 – City of Staunton residents can dispose of large, bulky items such as old appliances, furniture, and household goods by placing them at their curb no later than 6:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6.
Crews will collect items over a two-week period, with all pickups completed by Friday, April 17. Residents must keep bulky brush separate from heavy trash, as it will be collected later in the month to be diverted from the landfill.
Once collection crews have passed through a neighborhood, they will not return. This means items placed at the curb after 6:30 a.m. on April 6 may not be picked up. This service is available to residential trash customers only. Apartment and condominium occupants should check with their property managers regarding disposal procedures.
Items Not Accepted
The following items will not be collected and should be disposed of properly:
- Hazardous waste (pesticides, oil-based paint, chemicals)
- Car batteries
- Electronics
- Stumps, rocks, and concrete
- Old vehicles and building materials
- Tires (see disposal information below)
Hazardous waste, including many of the materials listed above, can be safely disposed of during the Augusta County Landfill Household Hazardous Waste Day, typically held in the fall. More details can be found at: https://www.acsawater.com/disposalguide.
Bulky Brush Collection
Crews will collect bulky brush beginning Monday, April 20. This collection will also take place over a two-week period. Bulky brush piles go directly to the landfill’s brush pile. Piles intermingled with trash will not be picked up. Please have bulky brush to the curb by 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 20.
Tire Disposal Event
Tires can be disposed of at the Gypsy Hill Park Football Stadium parking lot on Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tires must be off the rim. Residents are limited to four tires per household. Only car and pickup truck tires will be accepted.
