Overnight Phone System Maintenance; Temporary Outage Planned

April 14, 2026 – The City of Staunton will perform overnight phone system maintenance late this week. The work is scheduled to take place from 12:15 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday, April 17.

During this maintenance window, all city administrative phone lines will be temporarily out of service. This includes the Police Department's non-emergency line and the Public Works overnight emergency line.

911 Emergency Services Will Not be Affected
Residents experiencing an emergency or requiring immediate police, fire, or EMS assistance should continue to dial 911. The emergency dispatch system will remain fully functional throughout the maintenance period.

Police Department Non-Emergency Assistance During Outage
To reach the Police Department for non-emergency matters during the outage (12:15 a.m. to 4 a.m.), a temporary non-emergency cell phone line has been established:

  • Temporary Non-Emergency Number: 540.448.1075

Public Works Emergency Assistance During Outage
If a public works emergency occurs (such as a water main break), call the temporary number listed above, and dispatchers will coordinate directly with on-call personnel.

This is the first of three planned maintenance sessions. Two additional overnight windows are tentatively planned to occur at two-week intervals following the work on April 17.

The City of Staunton appreciates the public’s patience as we complete this necessary maintenance to ensure continued reliable communications for residents and staff.
