City Schedules for Memorial Day

May 14, 2026 – The schedules for City of Staunton offices Memorial Day Schedules (4) and facilities will be modified in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 25. Beverley Street will remain closed for Shop & Dine Out in Downtown on Memorial Day, with bollards being removed by 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Trash Collection

Residential: Residential trash regularly scheduled for pickup on Monday, May 25 will be collected on Wednesday, May 27.

Downtown Central Business District: CBD customers will receive trash collection on Tuesday, May 26 and additionally on Wednesday, May 27 with normal pickup the remaining days of the week.

Recycling Center Hours
The Recycling Center will be closed Monday, May 25 and will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, May 26.

Library Hours
The Staunton Public Library will be closed on Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25 and will return to its normal schedule on Tuesday, May 26. The outdoor book drop will be open for returns, and digital books and other online resources are available 24/7 at www.StauntonLibrary.org.

Please note that seasonal Sunday hours will end May 17 and will not resume until September.

Administrative Office Hours
The City of Staunton’s administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26.

Parks & Recreation
The Staunton community is reminded that the Gypsy Hill Park and Montgomery Hall Park pools open on Saturday, May 23 and will be open on Monday, May 25. For costs and hours, visit www.staunton.va.us/pools.

See You on Beverley! 🚶‍♂️🌳✨ https://bit.ly/BeverleyDemoLaunch This week, the city officially launched a month-long, grant-funded demonstration project between Augusta and Market streets. For the month of June, we’ve temporarily transformed the right-hand travel lane into an expanded, pedestrian space filled with benches, greenery, bike racks, and turf. Why are we doing this? We want to spark a community conversation. In late 2027, federally funded safety upgrades are coming to nine downtown intersections. Because of our unique downtown hills and narrow right-of-ways, those intersection upgrades will naturally narrow traffic down to a single lane exclusively at the intersections. While that intersection work is moving forward, any permanent expansion of the mid-block sidewalk space is unfunded and not planned at this time. This 30-day trial is simply a creative "test kitchen" to help us visualize how our public space could look in the long-term future. We want this to work for everyone, and know it's different to navigate. We have placed a dedicated 60-foot delivery zones right into the middle of each block. We want your feedback! Heads up for drivers downtown Wednesday! (6/3) 🚧 Westbound Johnson Street will be closed at New Street for utility work. The suggested detour is north on New Street, west on Frederick, turn left to go south on Augusta, and you're back on Johnson. The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. This affects folks coming into to downtown from Greenville Ave.
