May 15, 2026 – City Manager Leslie Beauregard has announced the promotion of Amanda DiMeo to Deputy City Manager. DiMeo, a 22-year veteran of city government, will serve in a dual capacity, retaining her current role as the Director of Economic Development.
“Amanda’s trajectory in Staunton is a testament to her dedication and deep understanding of this community,” said City Manager Leslie Beauregard. “Beyond her success in economic development, her experience as a department head and her cross-departmental leadership make her the ideal person to step into this enhanced role. This promotion strengthens our executive leadership team and gives us the administrative capacity needed to effectively manage our city’s incredible momentum and long-term projects.”
A Career Built in Staunton
DiMeo’s career is a "full-circle" story that began with a high school mentorship in Augusta County. Since joining the City of Staunton, she has served in several critical capacities:
- Economic Development: DiMeo has been a driving force in the department for several years, serving as Director since 2024 and previously as an Economic Development Specialist. In these roles, she spearheaded progress at Staunton Crossing and managed the city’s Business Retention and Expansion Program, developing key marketing strategies to attract regional investment.
- General Registrar and Director of Elections: She led this department for more than 12 years, gaining extensive experience in local government administration, regulatory compliance, and public service.
“I am incredibly honored to serve my hometown in this expanded capacity,” said DiMeo. “Staunton is in a period of exciting growth, from our economic corridors to our long-term planning efforts. I look forward to supporting the City Manager and our entire team as we work to make Staunton a more efficient, responsive, and vibrant place for all our residents.”
Professional Excellence & Structural Resilience
DiMeo is a graduate of the LEAD program through the University of Virginia and the Virginia Women’s Municipal Leadership Institute at Virginia Tech. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and public administration from Mary Baldwin University.
In her dual role, DiMeo will continue to lead economic growth initiatives while taking on a broader portfolio of citywide administrative priorities. By designating this role as Deputy City Manager under Virginia State Code, the position is empowered to handle administrative duties during the City Manager’s routine absences or travel, a standard municipal best practice that streamlines day-to-day operations and ensures continuous, seamless service to the community.
