Activity Report: April 2026

The City of Staunton has released its latest Activity Report, highlighting key projects, events, and accomplishments across all city departments over the past month.

Learn how the Farmers' Market upgraded its temporary home on the West End and what’s ahead for the city’s major creek tunnel repair project. We also have updates on the Gypsy Hill Park Pool House, outdoor adventure gear at the library, and how you can get involved with the community-driven draft of Staunton’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan.

The first two pages feature highlight stories, a message from City Manager Leslie Beauregard, a “by the numbers” snapshot, and details on calls for service and response times for Police and Fire & Rescue.

Each city department provides a monthly summary of significant activities and events, which are compiled into one report for City Council and made available to the public online. Previous Activity Reports can also be accessed from the link at the top of the webpage.

See You on Beverley! 🚶‍♂️🌳✨ https://bit.ly/BeverleyDemoLaunch This week, the city officially launched a month-long, grant-funded demonstration project between Augusta and Market streets. For the month of June, we’ve temporarily transformed the right-hand travel lane into an expanded, pedestrian space filled with benches, greenery, bike racks, and turf. Why are we doing this? We want to spark a community conversation. In late 2027, federally funded safety upgrades are coming to nine downtown intersections. Because of our unique downtown hills and narrow right-of-ways, those intersection upgrades will naturally narrow traffic down to a single lane exclusively at the intersections. While that intersection work is moving forward, any permanent expansion of the mid-block sidewalk space is unfunded and not planned at this time. This 30-day trial is simply a creative "test kitchen" to help us visualize how our public space could look in the long-term future. We want this to work for everyone, and know it's different to navigate. We have placed a dedicated 60-foot delivery zones right into the middle of each block. We want your feedback! Heads up for drivers downtown Wednesday! (6/3) 🚧 Westbound Johnson Street will be closed at New Street for utility work. The suggested detour is north on New Street, west on Frederick, turn left to go south on Augusta, and you're back on Johnson. The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. This affects folks coming into to downtown from Greenville Ave.
