Fall Heavy Trash Collection Begins Tuesday, Sept. 8

Aug. 26, 2026 – City of Staunton residents can dispose of large, bulky items during the city’s fall heavy trash collection. Items must be placed at the curb no later than 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8. There will not be a separate bulky brush collection period.

What You Can Put Out Items Not Accepted

Use this opportunity to dispose of

  • Large appliances
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Household items that don’t fit in regular trash containers
 The following items will not be collected and should be disposed of properly:
  • Hazardous waste (pesticides, oil-based paint, chemicals)
  • Car batteries
  • Electronics
  • Stumps, rocks, and concrete
  • Old vehicles
  • Building materials
  • Tires

Important: Once collection crews have passed through a neighborhood, they will not return. Items placed at the curb after 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 8 may not be picked up.

Who Can Participate: This service is available to residential trash customers only. Apartment and condominium residents should check with their property managers regarding disposal procedures.

Please consider donating or giving away items that still have life left in them! In the spirit of the city’s Less to the Landfill initiative, remember that several local charities will come to your house and pick up large furniture or working appliances for free. A quick web search for “Staunton donation pickup” can help find organizations eager to give your gently used goods a second life.

Hazardous waste can be safely disposed of during the regional Staunton, Augusta, Waynesboro Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Waynesboro Facilities Shop (900 Essex Ave.).
