If you own a dog that is older than four months, a dog license and rabies vaccination are required by Virginia Law and Staunton City Code.

You must renew your dog license by Jan. 31 of the year the rabies vaccination certificate expires via mail or in person at the Treasurer’s office. 

Fees

You may purchase licenses up to and including the year that the rabies certificate expires.  Fees are as follows:

• One year: $10
• Two years: $15
• Three years: $20

Getting a Dog License

You can obtain a dog license one of two ways:

1. By Mail: Send a valid rabies certificate and a check with the applicable fee to

   City Treasurer
   P.O. Box 474
   Staunton, VA 24402.

   In return, the Treasurer’s office will mail you a dog tag.

2. In-Person: Bring a valid rabies certificate to the Treasurer’s office, located at

   City Hall, First Floor
   116 W. Beverley Street
