The Clerk of the Circuit Court maintains land records for the City of Staunton. The Clerk's office records deeds, deeds of trust (mortgages), and other official instruments and documents associated with land transactions in the City. You may visit the Clerk's office to view land records dating back to 1802.

Secure Remote Access to Land Records
Secure remote access to land records is also available. The cost is $420 per year ($35 per month) per user, payable in advance. Each user must submit an application and sign a user agreement.  Those interested in utilizing secure remote access to land records may download and complete the application and user agreement and mail it to the Circuit Court Clerk with payment.

Deed Recording

To file a land record, you must produce a cover sheet with your document. Log in to the Supreme Court of Virginia's portal to create your cover sheet. 

Read the Staunton Circuit Court Clerk's requirements for cover sheets and the Code of Virginia sections 58.1-801 and 58.1-802 for value requirements when recording a deed of bargain and sale.
