The Staunton Victim-Witness Program aids crime victims, families, and witnesses throughout the court process, empowering witnesses to testify while complying with the Virginia Crime Victims' Bills of Rights and the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act.

We provide needed services for victims and witnesses as they navigate the criminal justice system. The Victim-Witness Program ensures that crime victims are advised of their rights and assisted throughout the court process.

Courthouse Facility Dog

Murph, the courthouse facility dog for the victim-witness program, accompanied by Janet Balser, his handlerJanet Balser, director of the Staunton Victim-Witness Program, handles a professionally trained courthouse facility dog—Murph—to assist crime victims, witnesses and others during the investigation and prosecution of crimes, as well as during legal proceedings. Murph is a graduate of Canine Companions for Independence
