City Budget
The City of Staunton operates on a fiscal year, which runs the 12 months of July 1 to June 30. The city manager works with the city’s chief financial officer each spring to draft and propose a budget to City Council for the upcoming fiscal year. After a review process, which includes numerous work sessions and requests for public input through public hearings, City Council will adopt the proposed budget or request modifications until an acceptable budget is ready for approval.
FY 2027 Budget Process
Work on the Fiscal Year 2027 (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027) Budget started in the fall of 2025. The Finance Department and the City Manager's Office are working closely with all city departments on capital needs, projects, and operating budgets. Budget submissions are due from departments by mid-December.

- April 9, 2026: Budget Work Session with City Schools and Public Hearings
