The mission of the Staunton Public Library is to acquire, organize, and provide access and guidance to a wide variety of information and materials which help to fulfill the intellectual, educational, social and recreational needs of all the people in the city.
The Staunton Public Library is a department of the City of Staunton and is managed by the Director of Library Services. A City Council appointed Library Advisory Board consults on policies and planning. Together, they implement policies and procedures that manage the operation of the Library, including the selection and acquisition of Library materials, the public use of meeting rooms at the Library and more.

Freedom to Read
The Staunton Public Library respects the right of all patrons to choose what to read, listen to or view, whether the material is in books, on video or DVD, on audio tape or CD or the internet. Parents are responsible for guiding these choices for their children. Library collections contain materials representing many points of view to ensure full access to information.
