The City of Staunton provides animal control services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, utilizing the services of the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center (SVASC).

Animal control officers respond to complaints concerning cruelty, animal bites, license and vaccination checks, as well as stray, nuisance, vicious, injured or sick animals. Patrol officers are also assigned to night shifts, enabling 24-hour service in the event of an emergency.
