The SPD provides numerous reports and statistics to keep the public informed, to provide necessary information to citizens and to enlist the assistance of citizens in finding criminals.

  • Crash Reports: To obtain a copy of the accident report you can either:
    1. Request one in person Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
    2. Call 540.332.3856 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and request that one be sent by email to you.
    3. Email PoliceRecords@ci.staunton.va.us and request that one be sent to you by email.  Allow 3 – 5 workdays to receive emailed responses.
    4. Go to CrashDocs.Org. The reports can take up to 5 business days to populate. 
  • Crime Maps: Get information about criminal activity in any Staunton neighborhood through a crimemapping service that pulls data from SPD records daily to show the most current information available.
  • Crime Statistics: The latest crime and traffic collision statistics from the SPD. This report is produced on an annual basis.
  • Daily News Reports: This daily listing of police logs is posted online every business day. The list summarizes criminal activity from the previous day.
  • News Releases: News reports released to the media regarding police department activity, searches and arrests.
  • Virginia Community Policing Act Collection Data:  Beginning July 1, 2021, each time a law-enforcement officer stops a driver of a motor vehicle, stops and frisks a person based on reasonable suspicion, or temporarily detains a person during any other investigatory stop, such officer shall collect the following data based on the officer's observation or information provided to the officer by the driver:
    (i) the race, ethnicity, age, gender of the person stopped, and whether the person stopped spoke English;
    (ii) the reason for the stop;
    (iii) the location of the stop;
    (iv) whether a warning, written citation, or summons was issued or whether any person was arrested;
    (v) if a warning, written citation, or summons was issued or an arrest was made, the warning provided, violation charged, or crime charged;
    (vi) whether the vehicle or any person was searched; and
    (vii) whether the law-enforcement officer used physical force against any person and whether any person used physical force against any officers.
