How Heavy Trash Collection Works
Two times each year, during spring and fall, the city collects large and bulky items not typically picked up during routine trash collections. The exact dates are posted in the Newsroom in advance.
Important: Residents must have their items at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the first Monday of the collection time.
Items collected in heavy trash include:
- Old appliances, including refrigerators, lawn mowers, microwaves, etc.
- Furniture, including mattresses, sofas, dressers, etc.
Items Not Accepted
The following items will not be collected and should be disposed of properly:
- Hazardous waste (pesticides, oil-based paint, chemicals)
- Car batteries
- Electronics
- Stumps, rocks, and concrete
- Old vehicles and building materials
- Tires (see disposal information below)
Hazardous waste can be safely disposed of during the Augusta County Landfill Household Hazardous Waste Day, typically held in the fall. More details can be found at: https://www.acsawater.com/disposalguide.
Bulky Brush Collection (Spring Only)
Bulky brush pickup is scheduled for the two weeks immediately following heavy trash pickup in the spring only.
Bulky brush pickup for 2026 will begin: Monday, April 20.
Residents must have their items at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the first day.
Tire Disposal
While the City does not offer curbside pickup of tires, residents may drop them off at the Gypsy Hill Park Football Stadium parking lot for disposal on a Saturday following heavy trash collection in the spring.
The next tire disposal opportunity will be Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
