How to Vote
Register to Vote here!
To vote in Virginia, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen;
- Be a resident of Virginia;
- Be 18 years of age, or 18 years of age by the next general election;
- Have your voting rights restored if you've been convicted of a felony;
- Have your rights restored if declared mentally incompetent by a court;
- Not be registered to vote in another state.
Pre-registration
- You may pre-register to vote at age 16 or 17.
- Submit a regular voter registration application (online or by mail).

Pre-registration does not allow you to vote until you reach voting age.
Same Day Registration
- After the standard registration deadline, eligible individuals may register and vote in person via same day registration.
- You’ll complete a registration form and vote using a provisional ballot.
- During early voting: Visit the General Registrar's office.
- On Election Day: Go to your assigned polling place based on your residence.
Early Voting
- Vote early at Staunton City Hall Lobby starting 45 days before Election Day.
- Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., closed on holidays and during inclement weather (in line with City of Staunton closures).
- No excuse is needed to vote early.
- Bring an acceptable form of ID and provide your name and address.
Curbside Voting
- Available for voters aged 65+ or those with physical disabilities.
- Park in designated spots and follow signage instructions.
- A helper may go inside to notify election staff or call ahead to coordinate assistance.
- Curbside Locations in Staunton:
- Left side of Central Ave, across from the "You Belong Here" mural (City Hall).
- Two spots in the old SunTrust lot, near the “Antiques” building and police department.
Vote by Mail
