Sewer Line Safety Inspections Begin

Six months after City Council voted to authorize participation in a challenge to the construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a brief has been filed on behalf of the City in a federal appeals court.

City Hires Chief Financial Officer
The City of Staunton has hired Phillip Trayer as its CFO. Trayer, who currently works for Spotsylvania County Public Schools, will join the City on June 1.

Work Resumes on Johnson Street Garage
Work on the Johnson Street Parking Garage has resumed and will take approximately one month to complete. Customers should look out for parking restrictions.

Parks and Rec to Host Senior Health Expo
Staunton Parks & Rec will host its first annual health expo for seniors April 26. Participants will have access to free health screenings, demonstrations and exhibits.

Library Book Sale Begins April 9
The Friends of the Staunton Library will kick off its annual book sale on Tuesday, April 9.

Changes Coming to Recycling Program
Starting April 1, the City will no longer collect plastic waste for recycling due to changes in the recycling industry. The City will continue to pick up other recyclable materials.

Staunton City Council will host a public forum at 7 p.m., March 27 at City Hall to gather public input on the next city manager.

BRCS Director to Retire, New Director Appointed
Dave Pastors, director of Blue Ridge Court Services, has announced he will retire March 18. Megan Roane, currently the assistant director of the organization, will take the helm.

Heavy Trash Collection Begins April 1
Residents should place all heavy trash items at the curb no later than 7 a.m., April 1. Crews will only visit each neighborhood once during the collection.

City Manager Steve Owen has announced that he will retire from the position effective June 30, 2019.
