The City of Staunton is announcing a personnel action involving the involuntary termination of 64 part time employees as a result of the operational disruptions and substantial revenue reductions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To allow for the continued safety of city employees and Staunton residents, the Building Services Division of Community Development has implemented significant changes in procedures for permits and inspections.

Staunton Announces Extended Closure Date

The City of Staunton is announcing that the closure of public buildings and facilities, and the suspension of various programs, activities and events, has been extended to June 10, 2020, to align with Governor Northam’s recent temporary stay at home order.

During its meeting on April 9, City Council will receive an update concerning the FY2021 Budget.

City Confirms Additional Closures in Parks

Additional Parks and Recreation facilities in both Gypsy Hill Park and Montgomery Hall Park are closed, including Gypsy Hill Golf Course and tennis courts, pickle ball courts and the skate park.

City Services Still Accessible to Citizens

Effective immediately, the Public Works Customer Service hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In light of Governor Northam’s Temporary Stay at Home Order, the City of Staunton government services are available by phone, email or online.

The Virginia Department of Health’s Central Shenandoah Health District has informed Augusta County and the City of Staunton of two positive COVID-19 cases in Augusta County and one positive COVID-19 case in the City of Staunton.

City Council to Consider Emergency Ordinance for Temporary Relief

Tonight, City Council will consider a proposed emergency ordinance to provide temporary relief to local businesses and citizens.
