Following an aggressive deployment of heavy machinery and contractor support, the City of Staunton Public Works Department reports that crews have now cleared at least one travel lane on 90 to 95 percent of city streets.

City of Staunton offices and facilities will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 27, as road clearing operations continue. While primary roads are improving, Public Works crews are encountering significant difficulty clearing residential streets due to the extreme cold and heavy ice accumulation.

Shoveling Ordinance: Snowfall Ends
The city has determined that snowfall ended at 8 a.m. today, Monday, Jan. 26. This activates the city’s snow removal ordinance giving property owners 24 hours to remove snow and ice from bordering sidewalks.

The City of Staunton is preparing for a winter storm forecasted to begin Saturday, Jan. 24, and continue into Sunday night. Crews are pre-treating roads and sidewalks, and temporary downtown parking restrictions will be in place to support snow removal efforts.
